Read Marc's interview below to learn more about why we think he's a real asset to TRUNO and the customer.

What did you do before working at TRUNO?

I spent the first two-thirds of my retail industry career progressing through field sales and management ranks at NCR. Ultimately, I landed in their headquarters in Duluth, GA as Director of Food & Drug Industry Marketing, my responsibility was to provide Market Requirements to Hardware and Software Development Teams. Since then, I have held positions in Retail Product Marketing and became a subject matter expert on customer specific marketing. Additionally, I have co-authored two patents focused on Self-Checkout and Electronic Price Labels.

Tell us a little more about you.

I currently live in Greenville, South Carolina, and have two daughters Marissa (22) and Elana (17) who reside in Atlanta, Georgia. In my free time, I try to stay up-to-date on all NCR, Toshiba, Datalogic and Motorola Educational Courses to learn everything I can about existing and emerging technologies. My favorite things to do when I’m not working is scuba diving, fishing, and golf.

You have a deep understanding of the complex dynamic of Tier 1 Retailers. What trends are you seeing in grocery today?

Retail is about providing multiple options for customers to explore, shop, and pay for groceries in a way that's suitable to their lifestyle. Some great emerging solutions include SwiftShopper, an app where individuals can build their list, scan their groceries, and check out all from their phone. Then, there's My Cloud Grocer, a click-and-collect solution which allows customers to shop online for their groceries.

TRUNO is well positioned to help retailers meet this challenge of convenience and offer multiple solutions for the customer to transact business with their store. It’s all about the customer's experience, which still remains the single most important differentiator between retail stores today. TRUNO's tools, applications, and partners enable retailers an environment with options for digital commerce and point of sale.

What has been your most rewarding customer project?

It’s tough to think of just one, but a recent implementation in a home decor superstore comes to mind. This specialty retailer was required to switch payment providers, and fast. This meant a lot of customization and integration with their current Point of Sale software and reprogramming of all pin pads. Additionally, they wanted to take advantage of the service and support TRUNO offers, since our 24x7 support centers coincided with their store locations.

Not only was it rewarding to have TRUNO provide a valuable solution within a tight deadline, it was rewarding to see the collaboration of the TRUNO teams. The professional services, implementations, and service teams worked around the clock to make sure this retailer had a working solution. They truly showcased the dedication and hard work TRUNO prides itself in.

The way technology can support retail business, especially in grocery, is evolving. What emerging technologies makes you most excited?

I’m most excited about how far electronic shelf labels have come. I spent a lot of my time in the early 2000’s selling electronic shelf labels. At that time, they didn’t have a majority of the advancements or capabilities they have today. I’m excited to introduce DisplayData’s Electronic Shelf Labels to all of my customers, even those not in retail. Their use expands far beyond the retail industry and has the ability to be used in manufacturing environments, restaurants, and places that weren’t even considered during the initial development.

What do you enjoy most about working at TRUNO?

I am most proud of the teamwork among various TRUNO departments. Being able to close a deal and know that it will be handed over to a trusted implementation team member allows me to help other retailers find solutions for their business. I think this process brings great value to the retailer.  The combined power of the TRUNO team working together is unstoppable!

Lastly, what advice would you give someone starting in your field?

I think the key to success is putting the customer first in all circumstances. It will always drive the right behaviors in the delivery of your solutions, and has the capacity to navigate success. Secondly, technology is always changing.  It is important to stay educated on all products so you are confident in the features, functions, and benefits of the solutions you’re presenting to retailers.

Above all you must truly listen to retailers in order to understand their unique pain points and resolve them with the right solution.
