Are We in a Grocery Revolution?

According to the U.S. Census, there are 123 million households in America today. The Food Marketing Institute's (FMI) U.S Grocery Shopper Trends Report found that 203 million people claim to have at least fifty percent of their household responsible for grocery shopping.  The research reveals some unexpected changes in consumer trends.  FMI is calling it a "grocery revolution".  Here is a peek at some of their stats:

25% of grocery shoppers are "Self Shoppers" - 53% of these shoppers are women

93% trust their food retailer to ensure the food they purchase is safe

69% of consumers say private brands very or somewhat important

48% of consumers replace meals with snacks at least 3-4 times per week

These changes in consumer trends present many new challenges for the grocery industry. How are retailers meeting these new challenges? FMI answers that very question in their attention grabbing interactive infographic, Grocery Revolution.
